Alignment with Australian Education Frameworks & State Policies

TeacherAI's AI features are designed to align with the following Australian and state-level education frameworks and policies. Schools and teachers can use TeacherAI in a manner consistent with their employer's expectations for the safe, ethical, and curriculum-aligned use of generative AI.

• Australian Framework for Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Schools (endorsed by Education Ministers, 2024–2025) — TeacherAI's practices reflect the framework's six principles: Teaching and Learning, Human and Social Wellbeing, Transparency, Fairness, Accountability, and Privacy, Security and Safety.
• Western Australia Department of Education — Use Generative Artificial Intelligence Technologies (staff policy) — TeacherAI supports staff use that is fair, trustworthy, and inclusive; protects personal information; allows teacher sense-checking of AI output; and supports teacher transparency about AI use.
• WA DoE — Students Online in Public Schools — TeacherAI is designed for use within school-managed environments and does not require students to create public AI accounts. For DoE-domain organisations, student-facing AI chat is disabled by default.
• School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) — Principles of Assessment — AI-assisted marking is advisory only. Teachers retain final professional judgement on grading, in line with SCSA mandated principles of assessment.
• eSafety Commissioner — Generative AI position statement & Toolkit for Schools — TeacherAI implements bounded student AI interactions, content guardrails, and full transcript logging to support school-level audit and child-safety obligations.
• Australia's Artificial Intelligence Ethics Principles (Department of Industry, Science and Resources) — TeacherAI's human-oversight, transparency, fairness, privacy, and accountability practices are designed to be consistent with these national principles.
• Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024 (Cth) and the anticipated OAIC Children's Online Privacy Code — Full server-side AI chat transcripts are retained for audit, and student personal information is excluded from AI provider requests wherever possible.
• Australian Curriculum v9 (ACARA) — Pre-built lessons reference Australian Curriculum learning areas. Australian Curriculum content is used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) licence with attribution to ACARA where applicable; excluded logos, trademarks, and third-party materials remain subject to their own terms.

TeacherAI is an independent platform and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any Department of Education, the SCSA, or any curriculum authority. Reference to a framework or policy reflects TeacherAI's internal alignment intent and does not imply accreditation or endorsement.

Assessment Integrity (SCSA-Aligned)

TeacherAI's AI-assisted marking and feedback features are designed to support, not replace, teacher judgement. Practices are aligned with SCSA mandated principles of assessment, including validity, reliability, fairness, and educative value.

• AI-suggested marks for short and extended responses require explicit teacher review before they are released to students or used for reporting.
• AI marking outputs are presented to teachers with the option to accept, modify, or reject. The teacher's final mark is the source of truth.
• Auto-graded structured questions (multiple-choice, matching, fill-in-blank, ordering) are processed entirely within TeacherAI's own systems, not by external AI providers.
• Teachers can disable AI-assisted features for specific assessment types or activities, e.g. for examinations, validation tasks, or other assessments where independent student work is required.
• Schools and teachers are responsible for ensuring AI use within assessment is consistent with SCSA, NESA, VCAA, QCAA, or SACE expectations as applicable, and with the school's academic integrity policy.

AI Deployment Mode Statement

• TeacherAI is an AI-capable platform; however, DOE implementations can be configured to operate in LMS-only mode.
• For DOE-domain organizations, student AI chat is configured as disabled by default at organization and class level controls.
• When enabled, student AI chat is only available in active lessons and is constrained to lesson topic, lesson content, and activity context.
• Student AI chat is designed to guide understanding rather than provide direct answer-only responses.
• Chat UI history is persisted locally in the browser for user experience.
• TeacherAI stores full server-side AI chat transcripts (student messages and AI responses) for child safety, school audit, and regulatory compliance (Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024, anticipated OAIC Children's Online Privacy Code). Transcripts are retained for a minimum of 12 months. A separate minimal topic summary is stored for rate limiting with 90-day automated cleanup.
• Teacher AI-assisted marking and assessment tools remain available unless the school elects to disable those features in line with local policy.
• AI-assisted marking is optional and assistive only. TeacherAI does not warrant that AI-assisted outputs are accurate, complete, or error-free.
• Schools and teachers must not rely on AI-assisted outputs as the sole basis for grading or reporting decisions.
• Teachers and schools are responsible for final grading decisions and professional judgement, and should export/download and retain assessment records and submitted work (where available in the Service) in their own reporting systems for safekeeping and audit.
• Practice Sets include auto-grading (performed within TeacherAI systems for structured questions) and optional AI feedback on open-ended responses (processed via approved AI providers using zero data retention where available and supported by provider/account settings). Adaptive difficulty and mastery scoring are calculated internally. All Practice Set AI outputs are advisory.
• Whiteboard and Annotation tools enable teachers to draw and annotate in real time during lessons, with optional saved snapshots (including audio/video) for post-class student review. Whiteboard data is stored on Australian servers, not processed by external AI providers, and subject to automatic cleanup (6 months active, 3 months archived classes).
• TeacherAI supports optional Handwriting Mode for written assessments. When enabled by a teacher or school, students handwrite responses directly on-device using a stylus, finger, or mouse.
• Handwriting stroke data (pen coordinates, timing, pressure) and canvas PNG snapshots of handwritten answers are captured and stored as part of the student's activity record. On-device handwriting recognition uses a locally-run machine learning model; no stroke data is sent to external APIs for recognition.
• PNG snapshots of handwritten answers may be sent to an AI vision provider (Anthropic) for teacher-assisted marking when that option is enabled. Vision-marking outputs are presented to teachers for review before affecting grades.
• De-identified handwriting stroke data may be used to improve TeacherAI's on-device recognition model. Schools may opt out of this by contacting [email protected]. Full details are in the Privacy Policy Section 4.3.

AI Processing Infrastructure

TeacherAI uses approved AI routing pathways and direct provider APIs to connect to AI models operated by external infrastructure providers. Current configurable pathways include OpenRouter, Anthropic, OpenAI, Google AI, Fireworks AI, Cloudflare Workers AI / AI Gateway, and Pollinations where enabled in product configuration. AI requests are configured to use zero data retention (ZDR) providers where available and supported by provider/account settings.

• Under ZDR-supported configurations, prompt and response content is not stored by the AI routing provider or inference provider after processing.
• Student responses submitted for AI analysis are not used to train or improve external AI models.
• AI requests are transmitted solely to generate the requested output and are not retained after processing, except where minimal technical metadata may be recorded for operational purposes such as billing, rate limiting, or system security.
• Where possible, TeacherAI removes or avoids sending personally identifiable information and limits the data transmitted to only what is necessary to generate the requested response.
• AI-generated results are stored only within TeacherAI systems, not with third-party providers.
• TeacherAI may deploy self-hosted AI models for certain features in order to further minimise external data processing.

Student Data Protection

• Personally identifiable student information is not required to generate AI responses and is excluded from AI requests wherever possible.
• AI prompts are limited to student work content, task context, and curriculum-related instructions.
• AI requests use zero data retention infrastructure where available and configured — under those settings, providers do not store or learn from the content of requests.
• TeacherAI does not permit third-party AI providers to use submitted student responses to train or improve their models.
• Schools retain full control over whether AI features are enabled, and can operate TeacherAI as a standard LMS with all AI features disabled.

Learner Profile (Personalisation)

TeacherAI includes an optional Learner Profile feature that helps teachers understand how each student learns best and helps personalise learning support, next-step recommendations, and report comments.

• The Learner Profile is off by default and requires school/organisation enablement and class-level enablement.
• No Learner Profile data is captured unless the feature is enabled and the student or their guardian has given the required consent.
• Profile signals may include student-selected interests and learning preferences, voluntary confidence ratings, learning activity patterns, progress signals, and teacher notes explicitly added to support learning.
• The profile is used to support teaching, learning, student reflection, parent reporting, and teacher insight. It is not used for advertising, student ranking, disciplinary decisions, or automated grades.
• Students and guardians can request access, reset, export, or withdrawal of Learner Profile consent through the school or teacher.

AI Safety & Responsible Use

TeacherAI follows responsible AI principles consistent with emerging Australian educational guidance for the safe use of AI in schools.

TeacherAI's practices are designed to align with the Australian Framework for Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Schools (endorsed by Education Ministers, 2025), including its six principles: Teaching and Learning, Human and Social Wellbeing, Transparency, Fairness, Accountability, and Privacy, Security and Safety.

Appropriate Educational Use

AI features within TeacherAI are intended to assist with:

• Formative feedback on student work
• Explanations and learning support within lessons
• Adaptive practice with auto-grading, AI feedback, and mastery tracking
• Teacher resource generation and content development
• Assessment marking assistance (subject to teacher review)
• Real-time whiteboard annotation and post-class playback for student review

TeacherAI should not be used to make automated decisions about student grades, disciplinary action, or student wellbeing without teacher oversight. Teachers remain responsible for reviewing and moderating AI-generated feedback before it is used for assessment or reporting purposes.

Safe AI Interaction for Students

TeacherAI is designed so that students interact with AI tools in a safe and constructive learning environment. The platform is designed to:

• Discourage harmful, unsafe, or inappropriate content in AI responses
• Constrain AI interactions to the current lesson topic, content, and activity context
• Support respectful and educationally constructive interactions
• Provide age-appropriate learning support

Academic Integrity

TeacherAI supports schools in promoting academic honesty and responsible use of technology. The platform is designed to assist learning rather than enable students to bypass assessment requirements.

• Schools and teachers may configure how AI tools are used depending on the learning activity and assessment context
• Teachers may choose to restrict or disable AI tools during certain tasks in accordance with school policies or curriculum requirements
• AI features can be disabled at organisation level, class level, or for specific assessment types

Responsible AI Use by Students

TeacherAI encourages responsible and ethical use of AI by students. Schools and teachers may establish guidelines for appropriate use, including:

• Using AI for explanations and learning support
• Avoiding submission of AI-generated work as original student work where prohibited by school policy
• Acknowledging AI assistance where required by school or curriculum guidelines

TeacherAI supports schools in fostering digital literacy and responsible AI use among students. Where AI-generated feedback or explanations are used in the learning process, teachers are encouraged to communicate this to students as part of developing responsible and ethical use of AI technologies.

Transparency

Where AI is used within the platform, TeacherAI aims to provide transparency about:

• When AI is assisting with responses or feedback
• How AI-generated feedback is produced
• How student data is processed in AI requests

Schools and educators are encouraged to contact TeacherAI if they require additional information about AI safety, data handling, or platform safeguards.

Ongoing Safety Improvements

TeacherAI continually reviews its AI systems to improve:

• Student privacy protections
• AI safety safeguards and content filtering
• Transparency of AI-assisted features
• Compliance with evolving educational standards and policies

As AI technologies evolve, TeacherAI will update its practices to reflect current guidance for safe and responsible AI use in Australian schools. ST4S and School Consent Note

• ST4S outcomes are advisory. A "Medium" risk result is common and highlights school obligations to manage consent and local controls.
• Each education authority and school may apply different implementation guidance and local approval requirements.
• Schools and teachers are responsible for obtaining required parent/student consent before personal information is disclosed or shared with the service.
