OPTIONAL build track. Design and build "Alex", a working voice assistant, on a Raspberry Pi or ESP32. Students engineer the whole signal path — sound to samples, wake word, speech-to-text, a HYBRID brain that answers on the device first and only reaches the cloud when stuck, out to a voice — then 3D-print it a body and decide what it should be allowed to hear. Bring-your-own brain (a local model, or the school's own cloud key), honest per hardware track, AI-assisted build. Runs as an alternative to the Drones topic in Term 2.
